Smith first touched clay at Ohio University (Athens, Ohio) where she obtained a BFA. She continued in her ceramic education as an Apprentice for Kaleidoscope Pottery (Easthampton, Massachusetts) and went on to earn her Master's degree from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
Smith exhibits her vessels nationally including: Pottery by Design The Clay Studio Philadelphia, PA, Cupling CFile.daily Santa Fe, NM, Yunomi Invitational AKAR Iowa City, IA and Celebrating Collecting Past Present Future Kennedy Museum of Art Athens, Ohio. She is represented by Modern Arts Midtown in Omaha, Nebraska.
Smith throws porcelain forms that reference the quiet landscape of her youth and as a runner moving within that landscape is equally important to the content of her pots.
Residencies allow for full exploration of specific ideas. Smith has been invited to and accepted at multiple residencies including: Artist in Residence at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, Short Term Residency & Artist Invites Artists Groups at Red Lodge Clay Center, Residency at The Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences and James Rosenquist Artist Residency. Her most recent endeavor is an AIA at Red Lodge Clay Center, organized by Kate Fisher for Both Artist and Mother.
